NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The Indiana University Southeast softball team split today's home doubleheader with Lindsey Wilson College. The Grenadiers fell to the visiting Blue Raiders 7-5 in the first game of the day. The Grenadiers did not get discouraged by the loss in the first game and came out swinging in the second game, defeating Lindsey Wilson 5-1.

The IU Southeast softball team is currently 9-7 overall and an undefeated 2-0 in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC). The Grenadiers now have a 6-2 record at home this season with its only home losses coming to Taylor University and today against Lindsey Wilson.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- Since she was 6 years old, Tara Denzik, senior first baseman for the IU Southeast softball team, has played and loved the game of softball. She said she enjoys the time spent with her team and said softball helps her to keep in shape.

Denzik said she attributes her accomplishments to her parents because they have helped her a lot along the way.

"I was adopted and my parents are great," Denzik said. "I probably wouldn't be where I am if I wasn't adopted." Denzik's mom is a special education teacher at Butler High School in Louisville. When Denzik was in the fourth grade, her mom took her to school with her where she first interacted with the special education students.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - IU Southeast sophomore Kayla Duke has been named Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for March 8 - March 14. This is the first time this season that Duke has won the conference pitcher of the week award.

Duke is a sophomore pitcher and outfielder from Louisville, Ky. Duke attended Male High School in Louisville before attending IU Southeast. She pitched a one run, two hit win over preseason No. 24-ranked Campbellsville University. Duke earned her first win in six outings.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The 2010 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Preseason Softball Poll was released this week. All KIAC softball coaches at member schools participated in the polling on the regular season finish of the conference teams.

In softball, Asbury College leads the voting with four first place votes and 32 total points.Asbury beat out the only other team to get first place votes. IU Southeast earned two first place votes and at total of 31 points to come in second in the conference ratings. The pack separates further as Brescia gets 24 points, Berea with 18, Midway with 14, and Alice Lloyd with six total votes.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The IU Southeast softball team received one vote today in the NAIA Softball Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll. Last year, IU Southeast finished the regular season with a 27-20 record and with a 16-3 record in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC). The Grenadiers will play their first game of the 2010 season on Saturday, February 20 when the team hosts Indiana Tech for a double-header beginning at 1 p.m. at the Koetter Sports Softball Complex.

Defending national champion California Baptist has been tabbed as the No. 1 team in the NAIA. The Lancers were the unanimous pick, earning all 23 first-place votes and tallying 653 points.
