LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The 2010 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Preseason Softball Poll was released this week. All KIAC softball coaches at member schools participated in the polling on the regular season finish of the conference teams.

In softball, Asbury College leads the voting with four first place votes and 32 total points.Asbury beat out the only other team to get first place votes. IU Southeast earned two first place votes and at total of 31 points to come in second in the conference ratings. The pack separates further as Brescia gets 24 points, Berea with 18, Midway with 14, and Alice Lloyd with six total votes.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The IU Southeast softball team received one vote today in the NAIA Softball Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll. Last year, IU Southeast finished the regular season with a 27-20 record and with a 16-3 record in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC). The Grenadiers will play their first game of the 2010 season on Saturday, February 20 when the team hosts Indiana Tech for a double-header beginning at 1 p.m. at the Koetter Sports Softball Complex.

Defending national champion California Baptist has been tabbed as the No. 1 team in the NAIA. The Lancers were the unanimous pick, earning all 23 first-place votes and tallying 653 points.

SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. -- On January 16, 2010, the IU Southeast Softball program traveled to North Bullitt High School and conducted two, two-hour skills clinics for the youth of Bullitt County.

The team and coaching staff volunteered their time for the afternoon, helping the students with all aspects of the game of softball, from fielding to hitting to base running.

The event was coordinated by the NBHS softball staff and was open to all youth of Bullitt County. In addition to skills instruction, the IU Southeast coaching staff took time to speak with each individual on what it takes to become a college student-athlete, focusing on hard work and success in the classroom.

Indoor Hitting Clinic
NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast Softball team will be holding an indoor hitting clinic on February 6 from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. in the gymnasium on campus. The clinic will be open to ages 10-18. Players who are under the age of 10 can still participate if they are advanced and understand they will be working at the collegiate level.

All participants are encouraged to bring their own bat to the clinic. The cost for the clinic is $50 and each player will receive intense instruction from one of the top hitting programs in the NAIA. Any coaches interested in bringing their teams should ask about our group discount.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- Brooke Leanhart of Oldham County, Ky. signed to play softball with Indiana University Southeast this past week.

Leanhart is a four year varsity basketball starter and a six year varsity softball starter for Oldham County High School Lady Colonels. Leanhart was a pitcher and centerfielder for Oldham County. In 2009, Leanhart had 45 at-bats with five doubles, five triples and four home runs. Leanhart averaged .555 from the plate during 2009. During her junior year, Leanhart also won the 29th District MVP and was on the 8th Region All-Tournament Team.

Leanhart will be studying nursing at Indiana University Southeast.
