NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- The IU Southeast Men's Tennis team had their first win of the year Saturday when they beat Indiana Wesleyan University 5-4 on the IU Southeast campus courts.

It was a huge win for the Grenadiers, last season Indiana Wesleyan was ranked 24th in the nation, and went to the NAIA National Tournament.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that 80 men's tennis players have been named 2009-10 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Adam Denney, a men's tennis junior for IU Southeast was one of 80 athletes who were named a men's tennis scholar-athlete. Denny is a junior from Bedford, Ind. and previously attended Bedford North Lawrence High School. Denney was named to the KIAC All-Conference team and finished the year 8-7 at the No. 2 singles spot for the Grenadiers who finished the year with a 9-6 overall record.

Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify for this award.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - IU Southeast junior Tyler Blessinger has been named Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for April 5 - April 11. This is the first time this season that Blessinger has earned the conference's top men's tennis player of the week award.

Blessinger is a 5'11" junior from Ferdinand, Ind. (Forest Park H.S.). Last week, Blessinger went 2-2 in singles matches on the week at the number five position. Blessinger is now 6-2 overall in singles play for the year. Blessinger has earned the best singles record on the team so far this season for the Grenadiers.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - IU Southeast sophomore Kevin Sacksteder has been named Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for March 29 - April 4. This is the first time this season that Sacksteder has earned the conference's top men's tennis player of the week award.

Sacksteder is a 5'11" sophomore from Louisville, Ky. (Male H.S.). Last week, Sacksteder won both of his matches against Asbury University. Sacksteder clinched the match victory for IU Southeast with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 singles win. Sacksteder also won his doubles match with teammate Matt Coomer 8-3 over Asbury.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The Indiana University Southeast men's tennis team is now tied with Brescia University for fourth place in the most recent NAIA Unaffiliated Rating. Several independents along with members from the Mid-South Conference (MSC) and the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) are eligible to be rated each week by the NAIA.

The Grenadier men are currently 2-2 overall this season, with their wins coming against Brescia University and Berea College. IU Southeast is 2-1 in KIAC conference play.
