[Softball] Grenadiers Stun Lubbock Christian 7-5 To Open NAIA Tournament

GULF SHORES, Ala. - The IU Southeast softball team defeated fifth-ranked Lubbock Christian 7-5 on Thursday night to give the program arguably its biggest win in program history.

The Grenadiers' Kayla Duke overcame five first-inning runs to pick up the complete-game victory. She limited Lubbock Christian to three hits and three walks, while fanning six. Jade Detzer led the way offensively, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Katie Jelinek, Nicole Mills and Summer Sanders each added a pair of hits.

New Albany, Ind. - The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is proud to announce Tia Wineinger as the KIAC Female Comeback Player of the Year.

The Indiana University Southeast basketball player suffered an ACL tear during the second game of the 2010-11 season. It was the second major knee injury of her basketball career. She also suffered a similar injury in her left knee during her senior year of high school.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast softball team kicks off NAIA Tournament pool play on Thursday, May 17 against Lubbock Christian at 5:30 p.m. ET in Gulf Shores, Ala, Union (TN.) on May 18 at 7 p.m and Lindsey Wilson at 11:30 a.m. on May 19.

The winner out of each four-team pool will advance to a double-elimination bracket play from May 21-23.

The Grenadiers wil face two conference tournament champions in pool play. Lindsey Wilson (46-11) and Union (45-10) won their respective tournaments and Lubbock Christian (54-7) was an at-large selection.

[Women's Tennis] Women's Tennis To Face William Carey In NAIA First Round

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast women's tennis team will open NAIA National Tournament play against WIlliam Carey (MS) in the first round of the tournament at 10 a.m. ET on May 15 in Mobile, Ala.

William Carey (14-9) is ranked 9th in the latest NAIA coaches' poll. The Lady Crusaders received one of 14 at-large bids into the tournament while IU Southeast received at automatic bid after winning the KIAC title. The Grenadiers received four votes in the coaches' poll.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast softball team defeated Asbury University 8-3 on Saturday night to win its fourth KIAC title in six seasons behind the strong play of the team's seniors.

Senior pitcher Kayla Duke had a solid performance in her final conference start. She pitched a complete game and gave up three runs on eight hits while striking out five to pick up her 14^th win of the season.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast men's tennis team had five players named to the KIAC All-Conference team on Saturday.

Freshmen Jordan Kelsey and Shane Burke were honored for their tremendous starts to their college careers. Sophomore Jimmy Nungester, junior Evan Biesterveld and senior Kevin Sacksteder rounded out the Grenadiers on the team.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast Athletic Department announced today that the gym floor and fitness center in the Activities Building will be closed from May 7 - June 8 for commencement rain site set-up and new bleacher construction. The anticipated reopening date for the gym and fitness center is set for Monday, June 11.

IU Southeast officials decided to close the fitness center and gym during construction to ensure security and the safety of all students, faculty and staff.

The Grenadiers will take on the winner of the Midway/Berea matchup at 1:30 p.m. at Hockensmith Field.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast men's tennis heads to IU East on Friday for the 2012 KIAC Tournament.

The Grenadiers (11-8, 4-1) face the winner of Brescia/Berea at 1 p.m. on Friday at Glen Miller Park in Richmond, Ind. IU Southeast defeated Brescia on March 17 6-3 and defeated Berea 9-0 on April 15.

KINSTON, N.C.- The IU Southeast baseball team's offense came back to live on Tuesday night with an 8-3 victory over Edward Waters.

Junior shortstop Trey Richard went four for five with four RBI and junior centerfielder Mychal Harris had three hits and scored three runs.

Senior Drew Evans got his sixth win of the year after pitching five and a third innings of work. He gave up six hits and three runs, one earned.

[Softball] Duke Wins KIAC Pitcher of the Week For Fifth Time This Season

BEREA, Ky. - Indiana University Southeast senior Kayla Duke was named the KIAC softball pitcher of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, April 30. This is her fifth pitcher of the week award for the season.

IU Southeast finished the week with a 4-0 record. Duke pitched eight innings during two games last week. Duke pitched one inning and struck out three in the IU Southeast 13-2 win over Alice Lloyd. She then pitched a complete game shutout against Brescia on April 29. She only allowed five hits over 7 innings and struck out five Brescia batters. She currently has a 12-6 record on the season with a 1.69 earned run average in 111.2 innings pitched.

IU Southeast is currently 29-17 overall and 18-2 in conference play. They will return to action on May 4and 5 at the KIAC Tournament hosted by Midway College.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - IU Southeast will begin the Unaffiliated Group Tournament (AMC/GCAC/KIAC) as the No. 3 seed set to begin May 1-4 in Kinston, N.C.

IU Southeast will play No. 4 seed Edward Waters (Fla.) on May 1 at 6:00 pm EST. Edward Waters enters the tournament with a 22-19 record.

All games in the six-team, double-elimination event are being played at Grainger Stadium in Kinston, N.C.The winner will receive and automatic bid to the NAIA Opening Round May 10-14 at campus sites around the country.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast softball team clinched the KIAC regular season championship on Sunday with a 6-0 win over Brescia.

Kayla Duke recorded her seventh shutout of the season and her 12^th win of the season in her final home start. Her career record moves to 40-26 with 19 career shutouts. She surrendered five hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking two batters.

The seniors led the way on Sunday as the Grenadiers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a Nicole Mills single which scored Megan Sutherland. Mills knocked in another run in the third as she singled to score Kate Toney who had doubled in the previous at-bat.

BEREA, Ky. - Indiana University Southeast senior Kate Toney was named the KIAC softball player of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, April 23.

IU Southeast finished the week with a 5-1 record. Toney finished the week with a .600 batting average (12-for-20) to go along with 4 doubles, 12 runs batted in, and 7 runs scored. She had four multi-hit games including a 4-for-4 game against Midway College. The senior first baseman leads the Grenadiers with a .385 batting average and is tied for the team lead with 12 doubles.

IU Southeast is currently 25-17 overall and 14-2 in conference play. They will return to action on April 28when they host Alice Lloyd College for a doubleheader.

BEREA, Ky. - Indiana University Southeast senior Kayla Duke was named the KIAC softball pitcher of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, April 23. This is her fourth pitcher of the week award for the season. IU Southeast finished the week with a 5-1 record.

Duke pitched in three games and earned the win in each contest. The senior pitcher only allowed one earned run in 17 innings last week and ended the week with a 0.41 ERA and collected 15 strikeouts. She picked up wins against Berea, Asbury, and Midway. She currently has an 11-6 record on the season with a 1.82 earned run average in 103.2 innings pitched.

IU Southeast is currently 25-17 overall and 14-2 in conference play. They will return to action on April 28 when they host Alice Lloyd College for a doubleheader.
