NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast softball team collected all six first-plaec votes in the annual poll of KIAC coaches.

The defending regular season champion and conference tournament runner-up Indiana University Southeast was selected as the top team. The Grenadiers received four first-place votes. Last season, IU Southeast finished the regular season with a 17-1 conference record.

Asbury was the conference tournament champion last season and is second in the preseason poll with two first place votes. Berea is third in the poll, followed by Brescia in fourth, Midway in fifth, and Alice Lloyd in sixth.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast men's tennis team was picked to finish second in the annual KIAC preseason poll.

The defending conference tournament and regular season champion Brescia University was selected as the top team. The team also advanced to the NAIA National Tournament. The Bearcats received four first-place votes.

IU Southeast and Asbury tied for the second spot in the polls with 1 first place vote and 29 points each. IU Southeast was the regular season and tournament runner-up last season. IU East is fourth in the poll with 16 points, followed by Berea and St. Louis College of Pharmacy in fifth with 10 points each.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast baseball team is picked to win the KIAC championship in the annual poll of coaches and KIAC officials.

The Grenadiers received five first-place votes and 25 total points. Last season, IU Southeast finished the regular season with a 23-2 conference record. They went on to capture the conference tournament and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament.

[Softball] Softball Team To Participate In Clinic with Olympic Medalist

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast softball team will be participating in the 2012 SoftballCon TPS Preseason MiniCamp hosted by two-time Olympic Medalist Jessica Mendoza on Saturday, Jan. 28.

The softball team will help the campers, who range from ages 7-18, through various drills to improve their hitting, fielding and baserunning. The camp will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.

IU Southeast head coach Todd Buckingham will also speak twice during the event. At 9:25 on Saturday morning, Buckingham will speak about the importance of designing and implementing a pre-game hitting routine. He will also speak about strength and conditioning at 1:45 p.m.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast women's basketball team could not overcome a slow start as it fell to Asbury 76-73 Thursday night.

The Grenadiers (17-7, 5-2 KIAC) were down by as many as 17 points in the first half before narrowing the lead to nine at halftime.

IU Southeast was able to the get the lead down to a point late in the game but they were not able to overtake the Eagles.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast women's basketball team goes for its fifth-straight win Thursday night as the Grenadiers host Asbury at 7 p.m.

If the Grenaders win Thursday, it will be the 400th career victory for head coach Robin Farris. He would become just one of nine active NAIA coaches with at least 400 victories. Now in his 23rd season, his overal record stands at 399-282. IU Southeast will also honor senior Megan Murphy as she scored her 1,000 point Tuesday against Midway.

The Grenadiers are seeking revenge on a 81-79 loss at Asbury on Jan. 14. Ashmere Woods had 18 points and 16 reboudns in the loss. Four Grenadiers scored in double figures.

[Women's Basketball] Murphy Named KIAC Player of the Week for Third Time This Season

BEREA, Ky. - Indiana University Southeast senior Megan Murphy was named the KIAC women's basketball player of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, January 23. This is her third player of the week award of the season.

IU Southeast won all three games last week. Murphy recorded a double-double in each contest. She began the week with 17 points and 13 rebounds as IU Southeast defeated Brescia 71-45. The senior forward led the Grenadiers with 26 points and 12 rebounds in the 92-63 win against Miami-Middletown. She ended the week with 17 points and 12 rebounds in the 88-34 win against Miami Hamilton. For the week, Murphy averaged 20 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists. Murphy currently leads IU Southeast with 14.86 points per game and is third in NAIA Division II total rebounds per game (11.4).

IU Southeast is currently 16-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play. They will return to action on January 24 when they travel to Midway College for a conference game.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The Indiana University Southeast Athletic Department is pleased to announce the recipients of the IU Southeast Athletic Director's Honor Roll recognition for the 2011 fall semester.

The Athletic Director's Honor Roll recognizes the outstanding academic accomplishments of IU Southeast student-athletes. To earn recognition, student-athletes must achieve at least a 3.0 grade point average for a semester. Below is an index of each student-athlete who is earning Athletic Director's Honor Roll recognition this semester.

Five Grenadiers student-athletes had 4.0 GPAs this semester: Derek Gross and Cameron Sanders of the baseball team, Katherine Clark of the women's tennis team, Stephanie Bradshaw of the volleyball team and Jade Detzer of the softball team. The women's tennis team had the highest team GPA.

Sixty-three percent of Grenadier student-athletes had a higher grade-point average than the average undergraduate GPA at IU Southeast.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast women's basketball team dominated the Brescia Bearcats en route to a 71-45 victory Tuesday night in the Activities Building.

Megan Murphy had a double double with a game-high 17 points and 13 rebounds and four out of five starters scored in double figures for the Grenadiers. Tia Wineinger had 15 points and nine rebounds, Heather Wheat also had 15 points and added six assists and Megan Cureton had 10 points.

NEW ALBANY, Ind.- The Indiana University Southeast softball program will be conducting instructional clinics on Saturday, January 21.

There will be two pitching/catching sessions, and two hitting sessions. The pitching/catching sessions will be 10:30-Noon (for ages 13 & under) and 12:30-2 p.m. (for ages 14 & up). The hitting sessions will be 2-3:30 p.m. (13 & under) and 3:30-5 p.m. (14 & up).

The cost for each session is $40. For those who want to participate in pitching and hitting, the cost will be $75. Group discounts will be available for groups of 10 or more. No pre-registration required.

[Men's Basketball] No. 19 Grenadiers Blow Past Brescia 85-60 Tuesday Night

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The No. 19 ranked IU Southeast men's basketball team defeated Brescia University 85-60 on Tuesday night in the Activities Building to remain undefeated in conference play.

The Grenadiers (13-6, 3-0 KIAC) had four players score in double-figures. Antoine Watson led all scorers with 15 points, Joe Lawson and Brandon Dunaway had 12 points each and Kegan Clark added 10 points.

The Grenadiers' swarming defense led to 22 Bearcat turnovers and the Grenadiers capitalized, scoring 18 points off turnovers.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fourteen NAIA student-athletes, including IU Southeast sophomore Derek Gross, have been selected to participate in the 2012-13 Red Cross/NAIA Collegiate Leadership Program. The initiative is now in its sixth year, and will inspire, motivate and create a new and diverse generation of American Red Cross volunteers and leaders through exemplifying the five core values of the NAIA Champions of Character program.

"Athletics plays such an important role in creating a sense of community on college campuses.The partnership with the NAIA has createda richopportunityto connect campus communitieswith the life savingmission of the Red Cross through the energy of NAIA student-athletes," said Brian Hamil, Red Cross National Chair Biomedical Services. "Since its inception five years ago, the Red Cross has experienced over 8,500 first-time blood donors from NAIA schools participating in this program."

As part of its support of the Red Cross diversity initiatives, State Farm Insurance is sponsoring this partnership. The leadership program kicks off with two weeks of energetic training at the Red Cross National Headquarters located in Washington, D.C. from June 4 to June 15. The incoming class will participate in a rare and unique opportunity to acquire first-hand coaching, mentoring and professional leadership training presented by the Red Cross, one of the nation's largest non-profit organizations. In addition, Kristin Gillette, Director of Champions of Character, will hold character workshops during the two week leadership academy.

BEREA, Ky. - Indiana University Southeast senior Antoine Watson was named the KIAC men's basketball player of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, January 9.

IU Southeast was 2-0 last week. In a conference battle at home on January 3, the Grenadiers defeated Indiana University East 107-92. Watson led IU Southeast to the win with 35 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. He made 78.9 percent of his field goal attempts (15-of-19).

IU Southeast finished the week with an 86-71 win against Alice Lloyd College on the road. Watson scored 19 points to go along with seven rebounds and two blocks. For the week, the senior forward shot 77.8 percent from the field (21-of-27) and made 84.6 percent of his free throw attempts (11-of-13). He leads IU Southeast in points per game with an average of 15.82.

The Grenadiers are 12-6 overall and 2-0 in conference play. They will return to action on Tuesday when they host Brescia University for a conference game.
