NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast women's basketball team defeated Kentucky Christian 73-43 at home on Friday night (Nov. 20).
IU Southeast (4-2, 0-0 KIAC) excelled defensively forcing the KCU Lady Knights (7-2) to 23 turnovers. The Grenadiers combined for 12 total steals as a team and had a strong second half, outscoring the Lady Knights by 25 points in the second half alone.
The Grenadiers were led by freshman
Kortney Woods (Louisville, Ky.) who scored a career-high 17 points with six rebounds. Freshman
Ashmere Woods (Louisville, Ky.) and
Jessica Prewett (Louisville, Ky.) each scored 10 points to help propel to Grenadiers to victory.
The Grenadiers shot 46-percent from field goal range and 39-percent from behind the 3-pt. arc. IU Southeast led by five at halftime, 27-22.
Kentucky Christian was led by
Ashley Baldwin with four rebounds and three steals. IU Southeast out-rebounded the Lady Knights 38-31 but took care of the basketball, only committing 15 turnovers.
Kentucky Christian shot 43-percent from the field and only 16-percent from 3-pt. range.
Next, IU Southeast will host Cincinnati Christian University next Tuesday (Nov. 27) at 7 p.m. for the Grenadiers first Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) game of the year in the Southeast Activities Building.
Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. Ticket prices for the event are $7 for adult general admission and free of charge for children 12 years old or younger. IU Southeast season tickets can also be purchased at the door for $25.
