NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast men's basketball team defeated the No. 23-ranked University of St. Francis Cougars 84-71 on Tuesday night (Nov. 10) in the Southeast Activities Building.

The Grenadiers started a little slow, but quickly jumped out to a substantial lead half way through the first half. IU Southeast led 23-9 with just over six minutes left in the first half. From that point forward, the Grenadiers never looked back cruising to a 13 point victory.

The Grenadiers' strong defensive pressure caused St. Francis to turn the ball over 35 times. The pressure also allowed IU Southeast to steal the ball 15 times during the game.

IU Southeast (2-1, 0-0 KIAC) was led by senior Carlos Mitchell (Louisville, Ky.) who led the Grenadiers' offensive attack with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists. Senior Alex Gravelle (Louisville, Ky.) came off the bench and scored 13 points for the Grenadiers. Gravelle was 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Kevin Slaughter and Brice Mitchell each added nine points to aid in the win. Jazzmarr Ferguson led the defensive assault with four steals and a block.

The Grenadiers shot 42-percent from field goal range and 32-percent from 3-pt. range. IU Southeast connected on 14 of its 24 free-throw attempts (58-percent) and had 46 of its 84 total points come from off the bench.

IU Southeast trailed by 17 points at halftime, 84-71.
The University of the St. Francis (1-2 / 0-0 MCC) was led by DeJovaun Sawyer-Davis (Anderson, Ind.) with 17 points, 13 rebounds and a block. Three other Cougar players scored in double-digits combining for 37 points.

St. Francis shot 30-percent from the field and 35-percent from beyond the arc. St. Francis out-rebounded IU Southeast 52-37.

IU Southeast will be back in action on Friday (Nov. 13) night when the Grenadiers travel to Richmond, Ind. to compete in the Indiana/Purdue Classic. The Grenadiers will take on Purdue North Central at 7 p.m. in the first game of the tournament. On Saturday, IU Southeast will face Purdue Calumet at 3 p.m.

Ticket prices for the event are $7 for adult general admission and free of charge for children 12 years old or younger. IU Southeast season tickets can also be purchased at the door for $25.
