NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The Indiana University Southeast volleyball team defeated Oakland City 3-1 on Thursday night (Oct. 27) at home on senior night for the volleyball program.

The Grenadiers defeated the visiting Mighty Oaks of Oakland City: 25-23, 26-28, 25-20, 25-22.

The IU Southeast volleyball team is now 21-9 (.700) overall and 6-0 in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC).

Before the match, the Grenadiers celebrated senior night in front of a wonderful crowd in the Southeast Activities Building. The University got a chance to say farewell to three wonderful seniors who played their last home game at IU Southeast on Thursday night. Vanessa Stauble (Louisville, Ky.), Stacey Flatt (Louisville, Ky.) and Kara Draper (La Grange, Ky.) were all honored for their outstanding careers at IU Southeast.

The Grenadiers and Mighty Oaks played a highly-contested match, with IU Southeast prevailing with decent hitting and strong blocking at the net. With the win, the Grenadiers avenge an earlier loss from back on Sept. 17 when the team fell to the Mighty Oaks 3-1 on the road.

Stauble led the Grenadiers with 16 of the team's 49 total kills (.406%). Stauble is now only three kills away from taking over second place in the volleyball record books for the most career kills as an IU Southeast volleyball player.

Flatt led the team with 41 of the team's 47 total assists. Sophomore Lauren McCartin (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) led the Grenadiers a match-high 23 defensive digs. McCartin also served the Grenadiers only service ace of the match. Stauble led the Grenadiers with five total blocks, two which were solo. The Grenadiers combined for nine total team blocks.

Oakland City (12-10) struggled with their hitting (.130%). Alicia Hartley (West Frankfort, Ill.) and Emily Prewitt (Greenwood, Ind.) led the Mighty Oaks each with nine of the team's 40 total kills. Leigh Ann Kluesner (Dubois, Ind.) led the Mighty Oaks defensively with 18 total digs and a match-high three service aces.

IU Southeast will now travel to Campbellsville, Ky. to take on the Tigers of Campbellsville next Tuesday (Nov. 3). The Grenadiers will then finish their regular season schedule next Saturday (Nov. 7) with a KIAC tri-match in Richmond, Ind. against Berea College and IU East.
The Grenadiers will compete in the KIAC Volleyball Tournament the following weekend (Nov. 13/14) in Wilmore, Ky. at tournament host Asbury College.
