NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The Indiana University Southeast volleyball fell to Spalding University 3-1 at home on Wednesday night (Oct. 14) in the Southeast Activities Building.
 
The Grenadiers fell to the visiting Golden Eagles of Spalding: 25-21, 27-25, 24-26, 25-23.
 
The IU Southeast volleyball team is now 14-9 (.609) overall and 2-0 in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC).
 
In a very competitive match, the Grenadiers could not hold off the strong serving of Spalding. The Golden Eagles out-served the Grenadiers with 11 total service aces. With the win, Spalding splits the yearly series between IU Southeast and Spalding. The Grenadiers defeated the Golden Eagles 3-1 in Louisville, Ky. on Sept. 9 earlier this season.
 
Senior Vanessa Stauble (Louisville, Ky.) led the Grenadiers with 16 of the team's 43 total kills. Stauble also added two solo blocks and four digs for the Grenadiers' cause. Freshman Shirley Roxanne Acree (Louisville, Ky.) added 11 kills of her own along with two digs for the Grenadiers.
 
Senior Stacey Flatt (Louisville, Ky.) led the team with 35 of the team's 38 assists. Sophomore Lauren McCartin (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) led the Grenadiers with 19 defensive digs.
 
Spalding University (19-4) had a team hitting percentage of .231 for the match. Paige Dellis (Louisville, Ky.) led the Golden Eagles with 12 kills. Alex Marquardt (Louisville, Ky.) added 10 of the team's 49 total kills. Allison Woosley (Louisville, Ky.) led her team with a match-high five service aces.
 
IU Southeast will hit the road next Tuesday (Oct. 20) to take on Midway College in a 7 p.m. conference match in Midway, Kentucky. The Grenadier volleyball team has already defeated Midway two previous times this season, both with a 3-0 final score.
 
IU Southeast will return for its next home match on Sunday, Oct. 25 when the team hosts St. Louis College of Pharmacy for a 3 p.m. match in the Southeast Activities Building located on the New Albany campus.
 
Tickets for IU Southeast volleyball matches are $7 for adults. Students, faculty and staff of IU Southeast can gain free admission to all IU Southeast athletic events with UCard.
