NEW ALBANY, Ind. - Freshman Coral Maybriar's dramatic ninth kill of the match sealed a 3-2 win for the IU Southeast volleyball team in their 2012 home opener against St. Catharine College on Tuesday night.
The two teams met Friday at IU East on the season's opening day with the Grenadiers pulling out close wins in three sets. Tonight's game started off much differently. IU Southeast (3-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with 25-14 and 25-23 wins. Then the Patriots (1-4) battled back with 25-17 and 25-14 wins. Maybrier's clutch play in the deciding fifth set led the Grenadiers to their second-straight victory.
Sara Schum led the Grenadiers with 13 kills while Jade Troutman followed with 12. Meaghen Tompkins had 45 assists in the win. Kristen Newberry had 24 digs in the match to led IU Southeast.
The Grenadiers host Hanover College in a scrimmage on Friday at 1 p.m. They are not back in action until August 28 when they head to Campbellsville.
