NEW ALBANY, Ind. -  Congratulations to Drew Evans, Megan Murphy and Jade Troutman for earning 2011-12 IU Southeast Athletic Department annual awards.

Each year IU Southeast head coaches and administration nominate and select deserving athletes for Male Athlete of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year and the Champion of Character award. Once selected, the winning athletes join other Grenadier athletes who have earned the honor in previous years.  A commemorative plaque displaying all past winners is displayed on the main concourse level of the Activities Building on the New Albany campus.

Drew Evans was named Male Athlete of the Year to cap off his stellar career at IU Southeast.  He went 6-3 with a 3.82 ERA this year.  Evans led the Grenadiers in wins and was second in innings pitched with 61 and a third.  He is currently playing professional baseball in Canada.

Megan Murphy received recognition as the Female Athlete of the Year.  Murphy averaged a double-double with 14.9 points and 11.3 rebounds during her senior season. She also led the NAIA in rebounding. She was a NAIA All-American honorable mention selection and made the KIAC All-Conference team as well.

Jade Troutman was the IU Southeast Champions of Character award winner.  Jade has been active in raising money for the American Heart Association and has participated in the organization's annual Heart Walk.  She has helped organize and lead volleyball camps as well.   

The IU Southeast athletic department thanks these student-athletes for their tremendous contributions to the University during the school year.
