NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast softball team swept the KIAC weekly softball awards for the third-straight week. Kayla Duke was named KIAC Pitcher of the Week and Ashley Benson was honored as the KIAC Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Ashley Benson

Indiana University Southeast freshman Ashley Benson (Noblesville, Ind.) was named the KIAC softball player of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, March 28th. Benson ended the week with a batting average of .500 (4-for8). Three of her four hits were doubles and she also drove in three runs to help lead IU Southeast to a 2-1 record for the week. On the season, Benson is batting .348 (8-for-23) and leads IU Southeast with a slugging percentage of .696.

Kayla Duke

Junior Kayla Duke pitched a two hit complete game shutout against Benedictine University on March 26th. In eleven innings of work on the week, she didn't allow a single earned run and only surrendered four hits while striking out six opposing batters. On the season, Duke has an earned run average of 2.95 over 61.2 innings of work.

IU Southeast will return to action on March 30th when they travel to Asbury University for a doubleheader. The Grenadiers host Alice Lloyd on Friday, April 1 at 2 p.m.
