NEW ALBANY, Ind.- The IU Southeast Athletic Department announced today that Clay Ryan has been named as interim sports information specialist.

Ryan is the first hire for Interim Athletic Director Joe Glover. Glover replaced former Athletic Director Pat Mrozowski who resigned last month.

Ryan is a former IU Southeast men's basketball player. He first joined IU Southeast during the 2005-06 season as a red shirt freshman for former coach Walt Corbean. That year, the Grenadiers finished ninth in the nation in NAIA Division II with a record of 30-4.

From 2006-2010 Ryan was part of a core group of players who grew to become one of the most powerful senior classes in Grenadier basketball history. Over their four years they produced three straight conference titles ('08, '09, '10) and made three trips to the NAIA National Tournament. In 2010, the team made its record-breaking appearance in the NAIA Final Eight before falling to Bellevue (Neb.).

As a Grenadier, Ryan was awarded the NAIA Champion of Character Award. Over five seasons, Ryan and fellow senior classmates went an impressive 124-36 (.775) overall.

Ryan is a secondary education biology major and plans to graduate in the spring. He plans to coach at the high school and college levels some day.

"This position will give me some skills and experience in the sports information field," said Ryan. "I can use these skills for the rest of my professional career."

Ryan's previous experiences with the basketball program and involvement with the IU Southeast athletics department will be put to good use as the interim sports information specialist. Some of his duties include managing the athletics website, reporting scores and stats, and taking charge of media relations and marketing.

"Clay is an excellent fit for our athletic department," said Glover. "Clay's work ethic is surpassed by few. He is a quick learner and has an almost devout passion for Grenadier athletics. I couldn't think of a better person to take over such an important role on our campus."
