NEW ALBANY, Ind. - IU Southeast Head Volleyball Coach
Lesley Drury Prather officially announced the upcoming 2010 women's volleyball schedule on Tuesday morning (6/29).
A total of 32 regular season matches are lined up for the Grenadiers not counting potential post-season play. A total of ten home matches are on this year's schedule, all of which will be played in the Southeast Activities Building on campus.
Coach Drury Prather, entering her second season as a collegiate head coach, is looking forward to playing a tougher schedule this year.
"I am really excited about our schedule this year," said Drury Prather. "We have added some very strong teams and I look forward to seeing how well we compete."
IU Southeast will begin its preparation for the upcoming season with its annual Grenadier Alumni Match scheduled for Aug. 14.
The Grenadiers will then begin its regular-season portion of the schedule with the Grace College Ramada Plaza Tournament in Winona Lake, Ind. IU Southeast will take on Grace College at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20 to begin the tournament. Other teams participating in the two-day tournament are Davenport University and Calumet College of St. Joseph.
After a scrimmage match with Hanover College on Aug. 28, the Grenadiers will return home on Sept. 8 to host Asbury University in New Albany at 7 p.m. This will be the first chance for fans to catch this year's team in regular season action at home.
The Grenadiers will also square off with Georgetown, Cornerstone and Milligan at the Georgetown College Rumpke Invitational on Sept. 10-11.
The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) opener will be on Sept. 18 against St. Louis Pharmacy and Berea College during a tri-match in St. Louis.
Other notable opponents for the Grenadiers this year include: Kentucky Wesleyan, Spalding University, Rose-Hulman, Lindsey Wilson, Pikeville College, Oakland City, Campbellsville and Union College.
This year's KIAC Volleyball Tournament will be played at Berea College on Nov. 12-13. The winner will advance to the 2010 NAIA Volleyball National Championship in Sioux City, Iowa.
Last year, IU Southeast finished with an overall record of 23-12. The Grenadiers went 7-1 in the KIAC during the regular season. Plagued by illness late in the year, the Grenadiers were upset by Asbury in the semifinal match in the KIAC Volleyball Tournament in Wilmore, Ky.
