Tournament Scoreboard) The IU Southeast softball team wrapped up its 2010 season on Monday (5/24) at the 2010 NAIA Softball National Championship. The Grenadiers fell to Morningside College 4-0 in the final day of pool play at the Morgan Wilson Sports Complex in Decatur, Ala.
Indiana University Southeast (33-15) struggled to get hits against the Mustangs of Morningside College (40-9). Morningside pitcher Kelly Baumert (22-7) threw a complete game for the Mustangs allowing only three hits. Baumert struck out seven Grenadiers with a walk in seven innings of work.
Morningside hit a .217 as a team compared to the Grenadiers .130 team batting average.
Kelsey Everett (8-6) picked up the loss giving up three earned runs on three hits in one and two-thirds innings of work. Kayla Duke entered the game for IU Southeast in the second innings and pitched five and a third. Duke gave up two hits and one earned run with nine strikeouts and three walks.
Shana Andres and Heather Shepherd were the only two Grenadiers to earn hits against Morningside. Both Andres and Shepherd also each stole a base.
With the loss, the Grenadiers finish 0-3 in pool play this year and bow out of Pool D in the NAIA Softball National Championship.
Lubbock Christian (2-0) and Bethel College (2-0) will face each other later tonight to earn the right to represent Pool D in the double-elimination bracket on May 25-27.
The 2010 softball national champion will be crowned on May 27 in Decatur.
IU Southeast finishes it season with a 33-15 overall record. The 2010 Grenadier squad tied the school record for most wins in a season with 33 (2008).
The IU Southeast softball program finished 17-1 in the KIAC, winning the regular-season conference crown. The Grenadiers also won the 2010 KIAC Softball Tournament which gave them their second ever bid to the NAIA Softball National Tournament.
