COLUMBUS, Ga. - (Opening Round Scoreboard) The IU Southeast baseball team lost its first game at the 2010 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round on Tuesday (5/18). The Grenadiers fell to the Warriors of Indiana Tech 15-8 at Golden Park in Group 8 competition. There are a total of nine National Championship Opening Round sites around the country, with the tournaments running from May 18-21.

Indiana University Southeast (39-19) struggled with its pitching throughout the day in the team's first appearance at the NAIA Baseball National Tournament Opening Round. The Grenadiers had to utilize five pitchers against an Indiana Tech (34-26) who earned all 15 of its runs off of 19 hits.

Indiana Tech hit a game-high .452 as a team compared to the Grenadiers .265 team batting average. IU Southeast earned its eight runs off of nine hits. Indiana Tech committed five errors and left eight runners stranded on base. IU Southeast did not commit any errors but stranded nine runners aboard for the game.

Indiana Tech's Tyler Snoke received the win on the mound with the save going to Corey Schwartz. Adam Lipke (8-4) picked up the loss for the Grenadiers. Lipke pitched four and two thirds giving up eight runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.

Zach Mapuin hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the third for the Grenadiers.

With the loss, the Grenadiers head to the bottom portion of the bracket will they will face the loser of No. 2 Southern Poly State vs. No. 3 Tennessee Wesleyan tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
Indiana Tech will take on No. 1 LSU-Shreveport tonight at 7 p.m.

With the tournament's double-elimination format, IU Southeast now needs to sweep every game moving forward to win Group 8 and advance to the NAIA World Series.

The winners of the nine National Championship Opening Round tournaments, in addition to World Series host Lewis-Clark State (Idaho), will meet at the final site of the 54th Annual Avista-NAIA World Series from May 28-June 4 in Lewiston, Idaho.

The 10-team, official bracket for the Avista-NAIA World Series will be announced by 7 p.m. CDT on May 21.
