FRANKFORT, Ky. - The IU Southeast men's basketball team routed Asbury College 106-85 on Friday evening at the Frankfort Convention Center in Frankfort, Ky. The Grenadiers rolled to a 21-point victory over the Eagles of Asbury College in the first semifinal of the men's conference tournament. With the win, IU Southeast advances to the KIAC Championship game on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The No. 5-ranked IU Southeast men's basketball team improves its overall season record to 24-4. The Grenadiers also earned the first seed in this year's tournament with an 11-1 regular-season record against KIAC opponents. The IU Southeast men will play the winner of the Cincinnati Christian vs. Brescia University game during Saturday's championship game at 4 p.m.
IU Southeast was led by Junior Rick Bodiford (Louisville, Ky.) with 22 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Senior George White (Louisville, Ky.) scored a season-high 20 points with two rebounds and two assists. Junior Jazzmarr Ferguson (Louisville, Ky.) scored 21 points with six assists and three rebounds.
Senior Craig Bryant (New Albany, Ind.) recorded 19 points with five rebounds in 33 minutes of play.
Senior Carlos Mitchell (Louisville, Ky.) rounded out double-digit scorers for IU Southeast with 15 points and five assists.
IU Southeast led by 23 points at halftime, 59-36.
The Grenadiers shot 53-percent from field goal range (40-of-76) and 42-percent from behind the 3-pt. arc (11-of-26). IU Southeast connected on 15 of its 19 total free-throw attempts (79-percent).
IU Southeast stole the ball for a total of 13 times with tough defensive pressure. IU Southeast tied with Asbury for rebounds (35). The Grenadiers turned the ball over 12 times compared Asbury's 25 total turnovers.
Tickets at Frankfort Convention Center are $10 for an adult, $8 for a senior adult, and $5 for students per day. Tomorrow's winner will earn an automatic bid to 19th Annual NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship in Point Lookout, Mo. from March 10-16 in Keeter Gymnasium at the College of the Ozarks.
