NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team swept Oakland City 25-20, 25-20, 25-15 on Thursday.
The Grenadiers (1-11) had a balanced attack with five Grenadiers recorded five or more kills in the match. They were led by Jeffersonville product Alexis Bassett who had 10 kills. Monica Loftus had eight kills and Kelsey Willinger added six for IU Southeast.
Kaebra LaGrange had seven kills for Oakland City and Bethany Hyndman and Drew McNamara each added six.
IU Southeast was also balanced defensively with four Grenadiers recording double-digit digs. Freshman Kenna Burman led IU Southeast with 21 digs, Caitlynn Pfaadt had 13 and Monica Loftus and Hannah Sipe had 11 and 10, respectively.
Hannah Sipe also had 38 assists for the Grenadiers.
The Grenadiers held a comfortable lead in each of the first two sets, keeping the Lady Oaks at four to six point deficit throughout. In the third set, the Grenadiers jumped out to a 20-9 lead and cruised to a 25-15 win.
Kelsey Willinger had five of her six kills in the final set to put the match away.
IU Southeast heads to Spalding University on Saturday when they will face MacMurray at 1 p.m. and the host Golden Eagles at 3 p.m.
