WILMORE, Ky. - IU Southeast had a great weekend at the RSC Fall Invitational with all five doubles teams entered in the tournament finishing as flight winners or runners-up.
Dana Frank/Tamerra Horton won the top doubles flight over Asbury in the finals 8-3, Camille Greenwell/Alexis Applegate won the second doubles flight with a win over IU Kokomo 8-2, Lauren Winchell/Sarah Hawes fell to Asbury in the finals of the 3rd doubles flight 8-4 and it was an all IU Southeast final in the 4th flight with Jeannie Soto/Brennyn Pollert winning over teammates Peighton Dobbins/Anne Mattox 8-6.
In singles play, the Grenadiers also had great success having players in the finals of all but one flight. At the top position Dana Frank finished runner up losing a very close match against Asbury 6-2, 6-7, (14-12). Newcomer Tam Horton had a great start to her career winning the second singles flight over Asbury 7-6, 6-1, Lauren Winchell placed 2nd in the third singles flight after dropping a 6-1, 7-5 contest to Asbury. In the 5th singles flight it was an all IU Southeast final with junior Alexis Applegate coming out on top over sophomore Jeannie Soto 6-3, 6-2.
Junior Anne Mattox finished as runner up in the 6th singles flight dropping her match to IU East 6-1, 6-4.
"Overall it was a great weekend for our girls getting to play a lot of matches and getting familiar with some new conference opponents," head coach Joe Epkey said. "We showed strong doubles play and competed very well in singles. As we continue to improve and get more experience with a fairly young team we expect great results in the future."
Next up for the women is the ITA Regional Tournament at Georgetown College on September 21st-24th
