NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast volleyball team was picked third in the preseason River States Conference Volleyball Coaches' Poll that was released on Saturday.

IU Southeast (23-13, 12-4 RSC) came in third in the overall poll with 92 points, which was just in front of Asbury (Ky.) University (17-16, 12-4 RSC) with 91 points. The Grenadiers and Eagles tied for second place in the RSC West last year, and they are picked second and third in the division, respectively, in the preseason this year.

IU Kokomo is the top choice in the 2017 River States Conference Volleyball Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Cougars are picked to finish first overall among the 12 teams in the conference and first in the RSC West Division after the polling of the league's coaches.

IU Kokomo, which was 27-10 overall, 13-3 RSC last year, is the two-time defending conference tournament champion. The Cougars won the RSC West last season and went on to win the RSC Tournament. They also won their NAIA National Championship Opening Round match at Ottawa (Kan.) to advance to the final site of the national tournament.

IU Kokomo received 117 votes in the poll with eight of the 11 first-place votes on the overall ballot and all 11 of the possible first-place votes in the divisional poll.

Point Park (Pa.) University is the favorite in the RSC East Division and placed second in the overall poll. The Pioneers earned 105 votes on the overall ballot, including three first-place votes. Point Park had eight of the 11 first-place votes to win its division. The Pioneers, 20-15 overall last year, were the RSC regular-season champs at 15-1 RSC and reached the NAIA Opening Round for the third year in a row.

University of Rio Grande (22-14, 11-5 RSC) was chosen fifth overall and second in the RSC East in the polling. The RedStorm had 88 votes overall and received the remaining first-place vote. Three coaches predicted Rio Grande to win its division.

IU East (14-20, 6-10 RSC) was predicted sixth overall with 75 votes and third in the RSC East. The Red Wolves notched a first-place vote to win their division.

The top four teams in each division will qualify for the playoffs. The polling had WVU Tech seventh overall and Brescia (Ky.) University eighth overall as the fourth-place teams in their respective divisions.

Rounding out the poll are Cincinnati Christian University, Carlow (Pa.) University, Midway (Ky.) University and Ohio Christian University.

The RSC will qualify two teams automatically to the NAIA Volleyball National Championship Opening Round with the RSC Tournament and the RSC regular-season champions guarnateed spots. The RSC Tournament runner-up will advance to nationals if the regular-season champion wins the conference tournament. The RSC Tournament will be Nov. 10-11 and hosted by the RSC East Division first-place team.
