NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Point Park and IU Southeast battled to a draw on Friday in the River States Conference Games of the Week with Point Park taking game one 4-3 before IU Southeast took game two 4-2.
In game one, Point Park opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Lily Pruneda walked and advanced to third on a single from Kim Corcoran. An RBI groundout from Jess Beitler gave the Pioneers an early lead.
IU Southeast (22-19, 10-6 RSC) roared right back to tie the game in the bottom of the frame. Kydyl Olds led off with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Sydney Seger.
The Pioneers (19-18, 10-6 RSC) took the lead right back in the next inning when Shannon Davis doubled to left-center and Chelsea Rogel followed with an RBI triple to right-center.
IU Southeast answered right back. Emily Weiss singled, advanced on a sacrifice bunt and moved to third on a single from Clara Shean. Morgan Keefer got a bunt down and Weiss slid in ahead of the throw home.
Point Park took the lead for good in the top of the 3rd when Clara Shean dropped a fly ball to left off the bat of Alyssa McMurtrie. Lily Pruneda and Amber Cook came around to score.
Becca Schoenung tripled and scored on a groundout from Shean to cut the lead in half in the fourth inning but Point Park starter Ashley Iagnemma retired IU Southeast in order in the final three innings of the game to earn her 10th win of the year.
She worked a complete game and allowed three runs on four hits and struck out four.
Alyssa McMurtrie had two hits in the win.
In game two, the Grenadiers got on the board with three runs in the first two innings. Emily Weiss brought in Schoenung with an RBI groundout to second in the bottom of the first. IU Southeast pushed across two more runs when Maddie Probus and Kyndyl Olds each recorded back-to-back RBI doubles.
Point Park had runners on base in three of the first four innings but broke through with two runs in the fourth. The Pioneers had trouble getting solid contact off of starter Emily Gray but were able to get four well-placed hits in the fourth to chase her from the game after surrendering two runs in the fourth.
Becca Schoenung replaced Gray and allowed just one hit in her three and a third innings of work.
Morgan Keefer padded the Grenadier lead in the sixth when she laced an opposite-field single to left to score Weiss.
The teams conclude the regular season Saturday when IU Southeast hosts Carlow and Point Park travels to Brescia.
