NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The No. 25-ranked IU Southeast baseball team shut down the Lindsey Wilson offense en route to an 8-1 win on Tuesday.
Six IU Southeast pitchers combined to allow just five hits. Brandon Nylin (6-0) got the win. He allowed one hit in two innings while striking out two and walking one.
The Grenadiers (33-9) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Richard Rodriguez doubled and later scored after Logan Barnes reached on an infield single and a wild throw from the shortstop allowed Rodriguez to advance.
The Grenadiers scored one run in the third and two runs in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
A two-run double by Rodriguez in the fifth extended the lead to 6-0 and a two-run single from Tanner Leenknecht blew the game open in the sixth.
Richard Rodriguez had three doubles, scored twice and had two RBI. Hector Marmol had three hits and Cody Maloon, Tanner Leenknecht and Matt Volz each had two hits.
IU Southeast hosts Morthland College tomorrow at 6 p.m.
