NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast baseball team completed a four-game sweep of Ohio Christian with 17-8 and 21-7 wins on Senior Day.
In game one, the Grenadiers used two seven-run innings, the second and the fifth, to blow the game open.
In the fifth, Tanner Leenknecht hit a grand slam to left, his third home run of the year. He went 3-for-3 with five RBI. Senior Logan Barnes went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
In game two, the Grenadiers scored in every inning as they scored a season-high 21 runs on a season-high 21 hits. Senior Hector Marmol earned the win. He worked four innings and gave up four runs on four hits. He walked one and struck out one.
The Grenadiers (32-9, 19-5 RSC) led 6-4 in the bottom of the fourth before striking for eight runs to put the game away.
The group of 10 IU Southeast seniors played a big role in the rally. Senior Clay Benefield hit a two-run single and fellow senior Julian Flanary hit a two-run double. Hector Marmol added a sacrifice fly later in the inning.
Some of the senior pitchers were able to get a rare at-bat late in the contest and Jamie Young took advantage by lacing a two-run opposite-field double to right in the bottom of the sixth.
Logan Barnes went 5-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBI, Marmol had three hits. Four seniors (Benefield, Flanary, Matt Volz and Zach Reboulet) each had two hits.
