GEORGETOWN, Ky. - The IUS outheast men's tennis team swept the weekend's play, defeating Brescia on Friday and Georgetown on Saturday.
The men's team started off the weekend with a convincing 9-0 victory over conference opponent Brescia. With Brescia only fielding two doubles teams the Grenadiers won 8-6 at No. 1 and a close 9-7 match at No. 2. The forfeit at No. 3 gave the Grenadiers a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
The closest match of the day came from freshman Brock Winchell at No. 1 singles where he dropped the first set 6-4 and trailed 3-0 in the second. He was able to mount a comeback and take the second set 6-4 and the tiebreaker 10-8 in the third set. All remaining singles matches were won in straight sets giving the Grenadiers a 9-0 conference win.
Saturday afternoon the Grenadiers came out strong in double play winning all three positions including a win at No. 1 doubles against regionally ranked #10 opponents Tristan Nosek and Ryo Takeda. Jonathan James and Bryson Mills were able to give the Grenadiers the 4th and 5th points needed for the win with Sam Venter also picking up a win at 6 singles to finish off Georgetown 6-3.
