NEW ALBANY – The IU Southeast softball team split a close doubleheader with Hanover on Wednesday, defeating the Panthers 4-3 in game one before falling 1-0.

The Grenadiers (2-8) surrendered the first two runs of the contest but used a four-run fourth inning to take the lead.

In the fourth, Justice Kline walked and Becca Schoenung and Emily Weiss followed with singles to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Kline and Morgan Keefer followed with an RBI single to bring in Weiss. Clara Shean laid down a squeeze bunt that brought in Schoenung and a wild throw from pitcher Sydney Griffin allowed Keefer to score.

Emily Gray (2-3) was solid in her complete-game win. She allowed three runs, two earned on nine hits and struck out two.

Becca Schoenung and Emily Weiss each had two hits for the Grenadiers.

In game two, Hanover starter Anna Phillippe shut down the Grenadier offense allowing just four hits and three walks in a complete-game shutout.

IU Southeast travels to Union College on March 15.
