KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The IU Southeast men's basketball program remains in the same spot this week, earning the No. 4 ranking in the 2009-10 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 poll for the second consecutive week as announced Monday by the NAIA national office. The Grenadiers are 18-3 overall and 7-0 in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC). The men's basketball team is the highest NAIA national ranking ever achieved by an athletic team in IU Southeast school history.
Despite losing for the first time in 40 games, No. 1 Oklahoma Wesleyan remains the top team for the 12th straight NAIA Top 25 poll, announced Monday by the NAIA office. There was numerous upsets last week as the top-10 lost nine times.
The top-four programs held their spots from last week's poll but only three other schools held their positions.
Oklahoma Wesleyan earned all 15 first-place votes and 405 total points. Now at 21-1, the Eagles dropped an 81-70 decision at then-No. 19 Bellevue (Neb.) on Jan. 30 which snapped an NAIA-record 39-game winning streak. Oklahoma Wesleyan next takes on Ozarks (Mo.), a team receiving votes, on Feb. 2 in the College Fanz / NAIA Game of the Week. The Eagles get a rematch at Bellevue as the Bruins visit Bartlesville, Okla., on Feb. 6.
Walsh (Ohio) holds at No. 2 for the sixth straight week. With 390 points in the poll, the Cavs fell 73-72 to then-No. 22 Cedarville (Ohio) on Jan. 26 to snap a nine-game winning streak. They rebounded with a blowout 81-45 win over Houghton (N.Y.) on Jan. 29. Walsh, who now is 20-2 overall, has a single game this week at Ohio Dominican on Feb. 2.
Oregon Tech is again at No. 3 with 372 total points. Another lengthy winning streak was halted at nine games after OIT lost 79-76 to Northwest Christian (Ore.) on Jan. 29. Oregon Tech improved to 21-4 overall after a 83-61 win against Corban (Ore.) on Jan. 30. The Hustlin' Owls next face No. 25 Evergreen State (Wash.) on Feb. 5 followed by Northwest (Wash.) on Feb. 6.
No. 4 IU Southeast was idle last week after a game was postponed due to weather. The Grenadiers are 18-3 overall and are scheduled to take on Brescia (Ky.) on Feb. 3 and St. Louis Pharmacy (Mo.) on Feb. 6. IU Southeast has won nine straight games and is 17-0 against NAIA Division II competition with the three setbacks coming against NAIA Division I and NCAA teams.
Indiana Wesleyan makes its highest appearance in the poll this year at No. 5. The Wildcats, who have moved up from an unranked team just four weeks ago, have won 15 of their last 16 games. With a 20-4 record, Indiana Wesleyan garnered 343 total points this week. Indiana Wesleyan battles Huntington (Ind.) on Feb. 2 followed by No. 19 Spring Arbor (Mich.) on Feb. 6.
The Mid-Central College Conference (MCCC) and Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) each place four teams in the Top 25 - from the MCCC, Indiana Wesleyan No. 8 Saint Francis (Ind.), No. 9 Bethel (Ind.) and No. 19 Spring Arbor (Mich.). The CCC has No. 3 Oregon Tech, No. 7 Warner Pacific (Ore.), No. 20 Eastern Oregon and No. 25 Evergreen State (Wash.).
No. 24 Concordia (Neb.) is the only team new this week. This mention is the first since Jan. 12, 2009 when Concordia was No. 19.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents. The eighth regular season Top 25 poll will be announced on Monday, Feb. 8.

NOTES: Fisher (Mass.) holds the nation's longest active winning streak at 18 games - it is receiving votes this week… Briar Cliff (Iowa), who has lost three in-a-row, falls out of the Top 25 after being in the No. 8 spot last week… No. 1 Oklahoma Wesleyan and No. 3 Oregon Tech have the most wins in Division II with 21… No. 1 Oklahoma Wesleyan has earned all first-place votes in each of the last seven polls… No. 2 Walsh (Ohio) has held the second spot for each of the last six polls… Oklahoma Wesleyan now has been ranked No. 1 on 12 occasions, all in consecutive fashion, since 2000 trailing only Embry-Riddle (Fla.)
