NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast women's basketball team routed St. Mary-of-the-Woods College 76-41 on Thursday night (Jan. 14) in the Southeast Activities Building.

With the win, the IU Southeast women's basketball team improves its overall season record to 12-7. The Grenadiers also currently hold sole possession of first place in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with an undefeated 5-0 record against KIAC opponents.

IU Southeast was led by junior Lauren Brim (Bedford, Ind.) with 10 points and two rebounds. The Grenadiers had a very balanced offensive scoring attack throughout the game with 13 players finding the offensive scoring column in the game.
 
Whitney Duncan (Louisville, Ky.) and Brianne Miles (Louisville, Ky.) each added nine points for the Grenadier attack.

Alden Krausse (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) only scored two points offensively, but played great defensively with five blocks, three steals and multiple deflections in 21 minutes of play.

The Grenadiers shot 52-percent from field goal range and 40-percent from behind the 3-pt. arc. IU Southeast led over the visiting Pomeroys of St. Mary-of-the-Woods by 27 points at halftime, 46-19.

The Grenadiers out-scored the Pomeroy's 30-22 in the second half to earn a 35 point victory.

The Grenadier reserves played a pivotal role in the team's success with 44 of the team's total 76 points coming from outside the starting lineup.

IU Southeast combined for a total of 19 steals with 10 blocks defensively, forcing the St. Mary-of-the-Woods into committing 33 total turnovers. The Grenadiers were 8-of-9 from the free throw line for 89-percent.

St. Mary-of-the-Woods (6-8) was led by Brittany Shaner with a game-high 11 points, three rebounds and three steals. St. Mary-of-the-Woods out-rebounded IU Southeast 36-29. Chelsey Barron snatched five steals for the Pomeroy's defense.

The Pomeroys shot 35-percent from the field and 10-percent from 3-pt. range during the game. Defensively, St. Mary-of-the-Woods forced IU Southeast into 18 turnovers with 11 total steals and three blocks.

St. Mary-of-the-Woods was 2-of-4 from the line for 50-percent.

IU Southeast will take the weekend off from competition before returning to action next Tuesday night (Jan. 19) when the team will hosts Midway College at 6:00 p.m. for a KIAC conference battle. The Grenadiers will attempt to remain undefeated in the KIAC with a victory over Midway.

Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. on Jan. 19. Tickets for the game are $7 for adult general admission. Admission is free of charge for children 12 years old or younger. IU Southeast season tickets can also be purchased at the door for $25.
