NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast women's basketball defeated Brescia University 52-48 on Thursday night (Dec. 10) in the Southeast Activities Building.
With the win, the IU Southeast women's program remains undefeated in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) with three conference wins.
IU Southeast (8-4, 3-0 KIAC) was led by Whitney Duncan (Louisville, Ky.) who scored14 points with six rebounds, five assists and five steals. Alden Krausse (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) and Emily Conklin (Louisville, Ky.) each scored seven points for IU Southeast. Krausse also pulled down a game-high eight rebounds with two blocks.
The Grenadiers shot 37-percent from field goal range and 31-percent from behind the 3-pt. arc. IU Southeast led over the visiting Bearcats by three points at halftime, 22-19. The Grenadiers out-scored the Bearcats 30-29 in the second half to earn a four point victory.
IU Southeast combined for a total of 13 steals with eight blocks defensively.
Brescia (5-5 / 1-1 KIAC) was led by
Brittany Bird, who had a strong night
with a game-high 17 points and five assists. IU Southeast out-rebounded Brescia 42-36.
Hollie Anson added eight points and three rebounds for the visiting Bearcats.
Brescia shot 34-percent from the field but only 15-percent (3-of-19) from 3-pt. range during the game. The Grenadier defense forced the Bearcats into committing 22 total turnovers, compared to 17 total turnovers for IU Southeast.
The Bearcats only went to the free-throw line for a total of eight times where they shot 37-percent (3-of-8). IU Southeast made a total of 14 trips to the free-throw line, shooting 64-percent as a team (9-of-14).
IU Southeast will be back in action next Wednesday (Dec. 16) when the team travels to St. Catharine College for a 3 p.m. game. The Grenadiers will take on Northwestern Ohio next weekend (Sat., Dec. 19) before breaking for the Holiday.
IU Southeast won't return home until Friday, Jan. 8 when the team's hosts St. Mary-of-the-Woods College at 6 p.m.
Doors will open at 5 p.m. on Jan. 8. Tickets for the event are $7 for adult general admission and free of charge for children 12 years old or younger. IU Southeast season tickets can also be purchased at the door for $25.
