NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast women's basketball team fell to NCAA Division III Hanover College 69-64 on Tuesday night (Dec. 8) in the Southeast Activities Building.
IU Southeast (7-4, 2-0 KIAC) was led by Whitney Duncan (Louisville, Ky.) who scored19 points with seven steals and four assists. Megan Murphy (Bloomington, Ind.) cashed in a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Murphy also added three blocks. Tia Wineinger (Dubois, Ind.) rounded out the double-digit scoring for IU Southeast with 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Grenadiers shot 35-percent from field goal range and 20-percent from behind the 3-pt. arc. IU Southeast trailed to the visiting Panthers by nine at halftime, 35-26 before outscoring Hanover 38-34 in the second half.
Hanover (4-2 / 0-2 HCAC) was led by Molly Martin, who had a strong night with 25 points and 15 rebounds. Hanover out-rebounded the Grenadiers 45-33. Torin Franz added 15 points for the visiting Panthers.
Hanover shot 42-percent from the field but only 12-percent (2-of-16) from 3-pt. range during the game. The Grenadier defense forced the Patriots into committing 21 total turnovers, compared to 17 total turnovers for IU Southeast.
Hanover shot 60-percent from the free throw line (21-of-35) in the game compared to the Grenadiers' 87-percent (20-of-23).
IU Southeast will be back in action this Thursday (Dec. 10) when the team returns to conference play when the Grenadiers host Brescia University for a 7 p.m. game in the Southeast Activities Building.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. Tickets for the event are $7 for adult general admission and free of charge for children 12 years old or younger. IU Southeast season tickets can also be purchased at the door for $25.
