NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast men's basketball team defeated the Cincinnati Christian Eagles 105-74 on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 5) in the Southeast Activities Building.
With the win, IU Southeast gains sole possession of first place in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) with a 1-0 conference record.
The eighth-ranked Grenadiers (8-2, 1-0 KIAC) were led on Saturday by junior Jazzmarr Ferguson (Louisville, Ky.) with 24 points, six steals and five assists. Brandon Anderson (Louisville, Ky.) added a career-high 17 points with three rebounds.
Clay Ryan (11 points),
George White (10 points),
Brice Mitchell (10 points) and
Rick Bodiford (10 points) all scored in double-digits to help lead the Grenadier offensive attack.
Both teams struggled taking care of the ball during the game, the Grenadiers committed 25 total turnovers, 16 of which occurred during the first half. Cincinnati Christian gave the ball away for a total of 28 times.
The Grenadiers shot 54-percent from field goal range and 41-percent from 3-pt. range for the game. IU Southeast connected on 14-of-21 free-throw attempts (67-percent) and had 61 of its 105 total points come from the bench.
IU Southeast led by 21 points at halftime, 53-32.
Cincinnati Christian (4-4 / 0-1 KIAC) was led by
Joe Mendenhall with 13 points, five rebounds and two blocks.
Tyrell Horton and
Darriel Hunter also scored in double-digits for the Eagles combining for 21 points.
The Grenadier defense held Cincinnati Christian to 34-percent from the field and 28-percent from beyond the arc. IU Southeast out-rebounded the Eagles 53-39.
IU Southeast will be back in action next weekend when the Grenadiers travel to neighboring Louisville, Ky. for the Bellarmine University Classic in Knight's Hall. IU Southeast will take on the University of Southern Indiana at 5:30 p.m. on Friday evening (Dec. 11). On Saturday night (Dec. 12) the Grenadiers will take on tournament host, Bellarmine University at 7:30 p.m.
IU Southeast will return home on Monday, December 28 when Cincinnati Christian College travels to New Albany for a 7 p.m. game.
Ticket prices for IU Southeast home events are $7 for adult general admission and free of charge for children 12 years old or younger. IU Southeast season tickets can also be purchased at the door for $25.
