NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast women's basketball team defeated St. Catharine College 63-61 in a very exciting game on Tuesday night (Dec. 1) in the Southeast Activities Building.
IU Southeast (6-2, 1-0 KIAC) trailed significantly early in the game before charging back to win in the final seconds of the game. Grenadier freshman Jasmine Cain (Jeffersonville, Ind.) was fouled on a made two-point layup in the final seconds of the game. The layup gave the Grenadiers a one-point lead over the visiting Patriots. Cain went to the line and nailed her free-throw giving the Grenadiers a two-point lead and the victory, 63-61.
The Grenadiers were led throughout the evening by junior
Alden Krausse (Floyd Knobs, Ind.) who scored18 points with eight rebounds and four blocked shots to pick up right where she left off last week. Cain scored 14 points for IU Southeast, three of which were critical at the end of the game. Cain also picked up seven rebounds.
Kortney Woods (Louisville, Ky.) and
Whitney Duncan (Louisville, Ky.) each added 10 points, rounding out double-digit scorers for the Grenadiers.
IU Southeast shot 36-percent from field goal range and only 11-percent from behind the 3-pt. arc. IU Southeast trailed to the Patriots by six at halftime, 33-27 before outscoring St. Catharine, 36-28 in the second half to earn the victory.
St. Catharine (3-5 / 0-0 MSC) was led by
Danielle Brown with 19 points, nine rebounds and a block. IU Southeast out-rebounded St. Catharine 51-45.
St. Catharine shot 38-percent from the field and 31-percent from 3-pt. range during the game. The Grenadier defense forced the Patriots into committing 17 total turnovers.
IU Southeast will be back in action tomorrow night (Dec. 2) when the team travels to Indianapolis, Ind. to take on NCAA Division I IUPUI (0-6) at 7:00 p.m.
IU Southeast will return home on Dec. 8 when it hosts Hanover College at 7 p.m. in the Southeast Activities Building.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. Tickets for the event are $7 for adult general admission and free of charge for children 12 years old or younger. IU Southeast season tickets can also be purchased at the door for $25.
