This is a part-time, volunteer position.
POSITION: Cheerleading Head Coach
SALARY: This is a part-time volunteer position. No benefits or compensation provided.
EFFECTIVE: The review of applications will begin immediately and the position will remain open until filled.
The Cheerleading Head Coach is responsible for the general organization and administration of the IU Southeast cheer squad and reports directly to the Associate Athletic Director.
High School Diploma / GED Equivalent is required. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Candidates must have significant experience in coaching or cheering at the college level, secondary level or club level. The ability to mentor students in a challenging academic environment is an important qualification, as well as the knowledge and willingness to adhere to the regulations, philosophy and guidelines for coaches of the NAIA, KIAC, and Indiana University Southeast Athletic Department. A valid driver's license is required. Valid CPR certification is also required (department will provide training if needed).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organize and administer the IU Southeast cheer squad.
Establish goals and directions for the program, in coordination with the Associate Athletic Director.
Provide positive leadership for the students involved in the cheer squad. Strive to motivate them in all phases of their lives; academically, athletically, and socially.
Provide assistance in budget preparation, and approve all expenditures for the cheer squad.
Develop and coordinate any fundraising efforts for the squad.
Approve requests for cheer equipment and supplies.
If cheer camps are initiated, conduct the camp using IU Southeast guidelines.
Coordinate and approve cheer squad travel---team and individual.
Supervise and monitor all cheer recruiting efforts with an annual roster size of at least 10-12 members.
Monitor academic progress and provide assistance in dealing with academic matters within the cheer squad.
Monitor records essential to maintaining eligibility and enrollment.
Coordinate practice planning and workout schedules for cheer in preparation for men's and women's home basketball games.
Coordinate game-day performances in accordance with the Pep Band Director and P.A. Announcer.
Coordinate the off-season program.
Demonstrate willingness to adhere to regulating bodies, such as the NAIA, KIAC, and Indiana University Southeast.
Ensure proper care, maintenance, and security of the athletic facilities, cheer equipment, uniforms and supplies.
Educate all cheer members on policies set forth by the Code of Student Conduct and Athletic Department.
Promote harmony, cooperation and team effort in a positive atmosphere of striving for the best.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
