NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast women's basketball team defeated Cincinnati Christian 72-68 in its conference opener at home on Tuesday night (Nov. 24). The Grenadiers take over sole possession of first place in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) with the early conference win.

IU Southeast (5-2, 1-0 KIAC) excelled from the free-throw line hitting 22-of-29 (.759) as a team. The Grenadiers also combined for nine total steals as a team. With the win, the Grenadiers give Cincinnati Christian (5-1 / 0-1 KIAC) their first loss of the season.

The Grenadiers were led by junior Whitney Duncan (Louisville, Ky.) who scored14 points with five assists and five steals. Juniors Lauren Brim (Bedford, Ind.) and Alden Krausse (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) each scored 13 points to help the Grenadiers to victory. Krausse also was a force defensively, blocking five shots.

The Grenadiers shot 39-percent from field goal range and only 14-percent from behind the 3-pt. arc. IU Southeast trailed to the Eagles by five at halftime, 39-34 before outscoring CCU, 38-29 in the second half to earn the victory.

Cincinnati Christian was led by Gladys Dudley (Cincinnati, Ohio) with 14 points, four assists and three rebounds. Cincinnati Christian out-rebounded the Grenadiers, 46-36.

Cincinnati Christian shot 39-percent from the field and only 28-percent from 3-pt. range. The Grenadier defense forced the Eagles into committing 19 total turnovers. Cincinnati Christian had 25 of its 68 total points come from off the bench.

IU Southeast will break for the Thanksgiving holiday and return to action next Tuesday (Dec. 1) when it hosts St. Catharine College at 6 p.m. in the Southeast Activities Building. The IU Southeast men's basketball team will take on St. Catharine immediately following the conclusion of the women's game.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. Tickets for the event are $7 for adult general admission and free of charge for children 12 years old or younger. IU Southeast season tickets can also be purchased at the door for $25.
